The Very Reverend Bill Phipps, former Moderator of The United Church of Canada, has demonstrated a life-long passion for social and environmental justice. He co-founded (along with Ted Reeve) the organization “Faith and the Common Good” which is still involved in its environmental work. He has worked tirelessly on various projects addressing economic and ecological justice. The emergence of the Eco-Commons movement, Bill’s ground breaking work in this field, is in many ways a culmination of a passion and expertise in working for justice that has always been a part of his life.   As Moderator of the United Church of Canada, he delivered the first Apology to survivors of Indian Residential Schools and their communities in 1998.  Bill is a member of the Calgary Climate Change Panel, Climate Hub, as well as being a member of the Calgary Citizens on Climate Change. He is the MC of the annual ceremony presenting the Calgary Peace Prize. His book, “Cause for Hope: Humanity at the Crossroads” is filled with insights and information for those interested in social and environmental justice.
